For you 20+ milers, how do you do it!? It would seriously take me 2+ hours to get to work. (More like 3hrs with my out-of-shape behind, actually. And the crowded city streets don't help!) Does it just take time & practice? Will I be able to eventually work my way up to a 20+ mile commute? Is there hope for me yet!? ;)
I have road or cross bikes for anything over eight miles long. Your bike with its upright riding position is not really designed for fast commuting but rather for cruising at no more than 10 mph. I average around 14 mph in NY & it takes about 1.5 hours to cover 20 miles. The West Side path is actually my lunch brake ride from the Battery Park to 130th street & back: 20 miles and 1.5 hours. Still a long commute, IMHO
