As for the rest of your stuff about tribes and self-image, I have already answered that. My decision not to wear a helmet is nothing to do with my image of myself, and everything to do with my image of cycling. It is not dangerous.
Another honest question: Are you aware of anyone who, as a result of participating in this forum, announced "Thanks, you people have convinced me, I have stopped wearing/started wearing a helmet?"
You may very well be correct about your reasons for not wearing a helmet. But as you will have noticed, individuals are not particularly good about judging their own motives for doing things. It's at least possible that this is true in your case also.
