while i don't use the king myself, i did use an MDF grinder for many years (brew machine has always been an isomac single-boiler e36, recently PIDed). how many times has your doser handle broken off? other than this (easily fixed) issue, i loved it. sold it for a vario, which after nearly a year i am still not happy with. what next?
Doser handle has yet to break, I've only had the grinder for a week or two! I love it though, the grind is so much more consistent than the Bodum that I foolishly tried to use for espresso (french-press duty only now) and goes way finer than I need. I think later this week when I run out of beans I'm going to convert it to stepless, although between tamping pressure/dosage the steps haven't really been an issue. I have read about the doser issues, but I love tinkering with **** (we all seem to) and wouldn't mind replacing it. I also baby my stuff and keep everything spotless so I'm not too worried about it.
I also highly recommend the Gaggia Classic to anyone starting in espresso. I found mine on sale for only $350, it pushes water at the correct temp and pressure (which apparently might be a lucky find on my part) and after adding the Silvia steam wand it's great for milk.
