"There's no technical reason they couldn't have a plate installed"

I doubt it would be as simple as adding a plate, I think they would have to alter the chainstay I sure wouldn't put one on the lighter touring end stays. Heavier stays could take it. One is talking about adding a plate to a very thin walled tube, there isn't any less reason for that to collapse from abuse than they do now with the clamp on ones. I use 3 different stay weights on touring bikes, and there is a huge difference in weight. ON my recumbent, the stay was very beefy aluminum, possibly solid. It was a swingarm. So while there is no doubt it could be done, the question is whether their average customer wants it badly enough to sustain whatever compromise in the stays would be required. I don't think they are dictating cool except to the extent that there really isn't a cool kickstand out there.

Then there is the usual issue of what type of stand do you provide a fitting for. This isn't a BB they don't have standardized fittings. If you do a single post you will get complaints from users of other stands.

QBP isn't Grant Petersen, they don't care about cool except as a means to sell stuff, and selling more stuff like stands is always good. But the market has to be there.
