Not anymore. I once lent an old Peugeot that I had completely rebuilt from scratch to a friend, who proceeded to crash and write it off after 1 mile on the road. Then he refused to pay for it, saying that it was "only a commuting bike" and that as such he only needed to replace it with the cheapest bike he could possibly get (think cheapest Wal-Mart type bike) instead of one as good as the one he destroyed!
