Finally a ride after 19 days...
My seat to low in the front, I adjust..
My house was spared
Only thing consumed was a boat, and bike remnants behind the tree of storage
(the tree i put all left over parts from my scavenged bicycles)
As I ride
A fire hose leak causes my tiers to splash through a small puddle
The drops do not arch far but are
Water seeking dry spots of need
I managed to get mu FrnakenPeu into the truck with our family mementos piled in its bed
Black to red smoke at 12:00
Awfully quite
My family had just evacuated with other items trailing
Make shift knots, still all the way they should be,
Boy Scouts
That’s the way it was 19 days ago
Now only the acrid sent of burnt piles of unknown mass remain
But my house was spared with a contingent of my five neighbors
All now surrounded by Dry spots of need
There...
another three foot oak tree of charcoal
Ready for the first wind to topple over
Hey if I collect the remnants its bar-b-q time
But in this area no one would dare start a fire
My front brake rubs
These 70s Universal breaks can be very touchy
I take the time to retrieve my wrench and adjust properly
The bike has been at my friends under tree for 19 days
On the right
another Lob-lolly green on top and burnt at its base
If no water soon to die
No rain on the horizon
Another dry spot of need
Before going up hill
I dip through a wadi on whats left of an asphalt road
Smoke still lingering at its lowest point
striking at my impervious throat
What is this ?
A simple resident with a throat as thick as a seasoned fire fighter
Rats
My back derailuer is skipping on my 34t as I climb
Cables must have stretched
ease off on my right shifter
Don't forget to adjust it latter
There on the right
a slab recently cleaned of childhood memories
Toys still in the yard
Water from its leaking meter run across the road
Water seeking dry spots of need
This is my new route
My old route now just a hilly derelict of smoking tree stumps and bad air
This was a residential neighborhood
Now slabs of damaged concrete waiting
I keep my breathing slow
After 19 days of no riding I have surprising strength
I suck my water bottle
One drop leaks touching ground
Water seeking dry spots of need
My font tire is going flat
is it that damn patch leaking again
No its a goat head
Time to stop
As I put on my vulcanized patch
I hear children yelling and chasing
amongst the burnt out relics of trees
Children chasing each other with sticks
5x5 dodging stumps into gulleys and wadis
Throwing dusty dirt clots
kicking up ash into the bandanas covering their face
all camouflaged with soot
Their fun a real time
surrealistic version of
a monochrome world war one film
Curiosity makes them stop at my bike
“
My bike is gone” one says
another, “how come the tubes on my bike are so small”
I explain...
In confusion I think
What is this... Small ones interested in a geezer and his bike???
No...
The video games must have burnt up in the fires,
they now play outside
I ask one,
“
is anything left of your bike”
he says “the frame”
I think...
water seeking dry spots of need...
