Can't say for the tires, but I "messed up", and started the process of adding the silver Sharpie before I thought to grab the camera. While it was still damp, I tried to rub it off from the direction arrow. I was to get some of it off, but you could still clearly see where it was from the smudge. So, I tried to rub that off, and it wasn't happening (the photos show the other side of the tire). I'm pretty sure it'll last well enough.
