I usually suggest 30 days or 30 miles, whichever happens first. As spokes settle and stretch a bit as you ride, your wheel will go slightly out of true and will need to be corrected to prevent damage. You don't necessarily need to remove the tire to true a wheel unless you've got a bad radial hop.

If your lbs built the wheel for you, they should offer the first tension/true check for free.
