Yes, I'm sure anything that brings people face to face who wouldn't normally meet would have that effect.

Here in Ireland when they brought in the smoking ban in pubs about ten years ago it had the un-foreseen effect that strangers who gathered outside on the street for a cigarette struck up conversations and I'm sure some even ended up getting married.

Don't think meetings at the gas/petrol pump could ever have much effect. Unless they were having a cigarette.



BTW I've just discovered an Irish/American point of PC conflict. The first time I typed cigarette above I used the Irish colloquialism which is spelled 'f and a and g' but when I viewed the preview it read '***'.
