Is there a third outcome in which the plastic and steel coexist?

Yes, it's called my garage. Right now I've got 17 rideable bikes in there, dating from 1960 thru 2006. Drivetrains range from 4 speed Benelux Mark 7 thru 9 speed Shimano Ultegra. What I ride depends on the day - and all please me greatly.
