The fact that there are bad roads doesn't mean that it makes any sort of sense to do a Critical Mass ride at night as one's first group ride.

If she doesn't have a lot of experience riding, it didn't necessarily make sense for her first group ride to be a CM ride at night.

It's not like she would fared any better if she came upon that crack in the middle of those 800-1000 riders of varying skill.
