The real question is, why do most of the people riding STI/Ergos even use drop bars. I seldom see anyone in the drops. They're always on the hoods or on the tops of the bar.

I admit, i just built my first Ergo bike and i ride the hoods 90% of the time on it. On my bikes with DT shifters, i seldom ever touch the hoods or top of the bar.

Given my observations, I would say that the risk is greater to standard road drops.
