I have carried a separate gauge, and have a gauge on my pump but in practice I mostly just use my thumb. I'd use the one on my pump if I could comfortably read it. Why the heck don't they color code the numbers or design a gauge that you can preset a big visible arrow or marker.

Oh and I top off the tires any time the chance to use a real floor pump presents itself.
