I wouldn't be interested much in doing any of the mechanical stuff myself. Also, if I did the "ride along" thing, I think I would only do it in my immediate area- I'm not interested in traveling. I could include website's like Tom's as a service they can use in evaluating a bike. Then I don't have to do that part. I really don't have any passion to helping someone pick out a $5,000 carbon bike and spandex. That's not an area where I know enough to help people anyway. I already make enough money at my day job to be comfortable, so really my hope is to encourage more people to commute and raise awareness for the cycling community at large.
Hopefully I can count on many of you to give me feedback on my beginner cyclist guide to make sure it is as helpful as possible. (or let me know if it has already been done and I'm wasting my time)
Thanks for the feedback everyone! It has been helpful to kick this idea around, get feedback and a feel for what I can do that will be helpful to others.
