And there you go, you just found your quest or your calling. Instead of focusing on the bikes, try focusing on the concept of cycling, sort of a cycling evangelist, a community activist of sorts. Look at the WI BikeFed site and others for ideas of how to approach things, I'm fairly certain that Portland OR has a similar group. It could be that all you really need is to find a place where you can fit in and contribute, and an already organized group can be a great way to get into that area of activity. From there you can expand out and offer seminars at places like REI (watch their upcoming events calender at your local store for ideas of what types of things they offer classes and seminars on).

I think I recall that even the Cascade Bicycle Club just a state north of you has some activities that you might be interested in helping with. Especially if your focus is not on the wrenching aspect of cycling.
