Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

My rule of thumb is the distance from the elbow to outstretched fingers on one hand plus the width of four fingers from the other hand.

I'd also disagree (to a point) that the normal cruising position should be on the brake hoods. You paid for a bike that has dropped handlebars. If you find it too uncomfortable to use the drops for an extended period of time, your handlebars are probably too low.
