I just ride what I like, and I like what I ride.
If I was trying to win tri's or races, I'd have at least one modern bike, but I am not, so I don't.
I've built and sold or traded average to higher end aluminum frames. They just didn't appeal to me.
I've built and sold or traded above average to higher end carbon frames. They just didn't appeal to me.
I find the C&V bikes easier to work on, reasonable to buy and find parts for, and noticeably different.
My taste for modern components is often accommodated by buying take-off parts from people who upgrade.
When I was much younger, my idea of a "ten-speed" was a steel lugged frame with skinny, elegant tubes and a horizontal top tube. I like some bling on a bike, in most cases.
As I get older, I tend to identify more with things I liked when I was younger.
I suppose it will end when I'm back in diapers.
