The study was looking at the benefit/risk factors for the general population and trying to make recommendations on the cost/benefit factors for the general population. That is far different than examining a single afffected individual. Grossly oversimplified, their recommendations make economic sense to the population as a whole. But, I'm not the population as a whole. I am the population of one, me.

This is not the only place where what makes sense from a statistical sense for the entire population makes no sense to individuals as long as we can afford to treat individuals as individuals and not just as members of the collective whole.
