First season racing. Basically did every race from late January to May in Arizona, to just gain experience and hopefully race myself into shape. My goals for last season were to just gain as much experience as possible, and worry about results another year. I also wanted to do the Assault on Mt Mitchell in May, and even though it's not a USAC race, it was my A race.
Quick Synopsis:
- I had top 10 results in the 5s, but nothing better than 6th.
- 10th in Valley of the Sun Stage Race overall as a 5, helped a teammate get 2nd.
- Wrecked....Twice! Both my own fault. Both hurt horribly.
- Upgrade to 4s, proceeded to get dropped a few weekends in a row.
- Finally got the hang of the 4s late in the season, and was able to grab a couple top 10s in crits (no points).
- Got 1st out of 20 in a Hill Climb TT (cat 4). Really had no excuse not to win considering it was in my backyard and I did the climb about 4 times a week.
- Finished 28th out of ~1000 in Assault on Mt Mitchell. Considering about 20 of the 27 people that finished in front of me were Pros, I felt pretty good about my first attempt.
- 6th in the SC RR Championships (Finally some points)
- Top 15 in 2 crits in the fall, got into breakaways in each race, which I had failed to do earlier in the season. Got caught behind wrecks at the finish or would have had better results.
- Won 2 fred charity rides in the last month (hey, I was out of real races and wanted to do some race like intensity, might as well do it for a good cause).
Next Season:
- Upgrade to Cat 3
- Grab a win other than a TT
- Continue to enjoy racing my bike
- Try not to leave skin on the asphalt.
- Get a top 10 in Assault on Mt Mitchell
I have many more years of racing bikes ahead of me. I'm just taking it slow and trying to enjoy the experience I get as it comes.
