Who and why did somebody invent the 31.7 mm clamp diameter stem-Arrggh!
What is the benefit of a 31.7mm bar clamp? I have a steel bike with a 26.0mm bar clamp (1" steerer tube diameter) and I find that I am limited on the cool modern anatomical handlebars out there that seem to favor the 31.7mm stem.

Help me out here please?
