In some parts of the US the bike paths are the sidewalks and you cross the streets at the crosswalks, if you are on the bike paths. If I am riding on a designated bike path and it leads to a cross walk, I am going to ride across. If I am on the sidewalk for any other reason I am going to be walking the bike across.
