What he's after is a chain tensioner - not a chain guide like on a multi geared setup. Very related, but not at all the same things.

Re: more chain guide topics. With the advent of 11-36 cassette availability that isn't the crappy low level shimano one or the stupid expensive SRAM one (as in, you can get one on mounted on a spider, and under $100) more and more riders I see are swapping to single ring front seatups.

Most bikes doing that will need some form of chainguide, even if just a bash/Jump-Stop setup.
