Isn't that the new recommendation? That only certain women with risk factors start early on the mammograms? And the rest start later than they do now if at all? At least with women, there's some radiation in the mammogram, so there's a potential harm due to the test. Not 50+, but thought I'd chime in as I've started getting my PSA at the checkup (I'm not good about going in yearly, but when I have gone in I've had to ask specifically for it a couple of times). With some relatives recently getting theirs out (and some great grands dying of what we think is prostate cancer in their 40's), my mom's been pushing me to get it measured regularly since I hit 30. Since, they're drawing blood for my cholesterol and triglycerides and everything anyway, what's the harm in one extra tube drawn? Now, yes I'm getting the finger pushed off as long as I can, but I've already been scoped down there once and it ain't the end of the world.
