I don't have, and don't want, a regular cell phone. But I figure it might be very handy if things get ugly. The cool thing is that I only spend $10 or $20 at a time, 3 or 4 times during the year.
I recently was given one of these type of cell phones (Virgin Mobile) by my daughter for Father's Day. I never wanted one before I recently began cycling, but it is a good insurance policy to carry on long trips on the trail. I don't use it for anything else. It is only required that I add $20 of air time every 90 days. I don't really need, or want, a regular cell phone because I'm retired, and spend most of my time at home. Actually, the only two people who have the number is my wife, and daughter. so I don't have to worry about annoying calls. I carry it in my handlebar bag.
