I use my 1983 S12-S LTD as my touring rig with a saddle bag and front rack. I have not kept it classic, but oh man, it rides wonderfully.
Back in May, we took a ride up and down some serious mountains to some Yurts:

and then later in the summer, it helped conquer the D2R2:
