I have some major inflammatory issue that must have a million symptoms and I am almost 100% sure that it was caused at least in part by MOLD.
The combination of toxic environmental pollutants, and stress is a dangerous one because the body becomes sensitzed to things at a vastly heightened level when our bodies are loaded with stress hormones. And thats irreversible.
The mold problem has hit a lot of people very hard because it makes them ill when they get exposed to mold and mold is not regulated in any way. Many buildings, workplaces, etc. are moldy, and its not uncommon for somebody to work somewhere for 30 years, then start getting sick when some flooding makes the building moldy, and then they have to quit because the building and they dont get along - because of the mold.
A lot of the time people who are exposed to mold suddenly gain a lot of weight. They get chronic fatigue so they don't exercise.
One thing that Ive found helps is a device called a heat recovery ventilator that basically acts as a double fan and it exchanges the air in your home for outdoor air while moderating the temperature of the outdoor with the indoor.. (he two flows are balanced) The effect of this is to prevent the buildup of anything in your indoor air.
That may not be the primary cause of your problems, but I think it's often part of them for people. I have repeatedly heard from people who work in the area that mold exposure is one of the least discussed, least recognized causes of illness. As homes have goten tighter, more and more people are getting sick.
Formaldehyde too is very bad for you, and most homes are filled with it. (all the fake wood products use it in their glue.)
Inflammation causes obesity, so I think its a safe bet that most people with weight issues are dealing with some major inflammation.
There are dozens of largely unrecognized causes of inflammatory illness, common ones.
Some plastic chemicals persist in the body and cause systemic inflammation, forever.
