I had a purple Sears Spyder 5-speed with a banana seat and ape hanger bars when I was in elementary school. The shifter was on the curving top tube, mounted within a metallic/chrome plastic box, and it had a little black ball on the end. It was like a muscle car bike. Must've been 24-inch wheels, though I can't remember, but they were bigger than my friends' Schwinn 5-speeds, which must've been 20-inch.
I loved that bike. Stolen from the school bike rack in 3rd grade and recovered by the police a few days later. Miraculous.
