In its time, the Skid Lid was an awful piece of gear. It was designed all wrong. But if you're wearing it for style, well, it's some kind of style, I guess.

The Bell Biker did pass the Snell test. It also weight 17 ounces. And oh boy was it hot. I like how the ads said the helmet had "massive" air scoops. How can a hole have mass? OK, I'm a bit of a geek for that remark.

A Bell Biker saved my life. I got hit head-on by a car! I don't remember the impact or the ambulance ride.

And I wonder if the new helmets are better. That thing was made of Lexan. Tough stuff. I think the new stuff is lighter only because people want them to be lighter. Helmets aren't shown to improve crash survival statistics. I wear one anyway on every ride, because wearing one saved my life. And that was before others were even wearing helmets.
