I collect and use vintage handsaws, these have a large expanse of high carbon steel. Freshly brightened steel is susceptible to flash rusting/oxidation. I have not found Boeshield to be any better than mineral oil for rust prevention and paste wax is ineffective. I wipe my saws down with mineral oil after every use. In your case, I would pursue chroming the frame.
