Very good post. I will video tape myself this weekend as I have felt my wheelie has been quite weak. And I"m sure I'm doing something wrong.
Wheelies seem to be one of those things that some people just never really get. I'm one of those people, & I've come to accept it, but I still try because I enjoy it. It's all about finding your balance point, though, & I have pretty poor balance so your jiu jitsu might give you an advantage there. Staying low actually came fairly natural to me. I'm in jiu jitsu and one of the biggest things when mounted is to stay low, or you'll get thrown over very easy.
Jiu jitsu is a good background to come from in MTBing. Lots of core strength, endurance, & balance. All the things I'm lacking in
So when I'm riding I'm usually gonna want to keep my but off the saddle, but still low right?
When doing something that requires standing up off your seat, yes you want to stay as close as possible without running the risk of hitting a big rock & having your seat knock you in the jewels
Also, when I'm going down a steep hill, should my butt be over the back tire depending on the steepness? I've read in a few places that this style of downhill riding is "primitive" but offered no other solution. So I am a bit unsure. Thank you for the helpful post.
I'm gonna leave this one to the more advanced MTBers because I honestly don't know.
