Over here in the UK as well as being privileged to host the Olympics this year we did the same a few years back and the velodrome survives and has recently been resurfaced.
I was fortunate enough to ride that track and give my daughter a great intro to the concept on a tagalong for a fund raiser and I am keep to "show" my stoker the same experience as an outing....
I can see I shall need to join this club etc etc
But I thought I would post a thread up here to see if tandems and track are a major thing or a minor key and also to gauge feeling about our venerable MT1000 getting an outing there, carpenters tools in the hands of a blacksmith springs to mind but we have no other options.
It was just a bit scary the level of health and safety and the kids setting off after just a chat form a veteran and the caretaker on track "etiquette" I did not laugh at the scrapes the boys got when they totally ignored his advice and hared up the first bend to the high side, promptly falling off and many barked elbows etc resulted! They'll learn and listen and to their credit they all remounted (some after a little first aid) and completed the ride - my daughter made me very proud as I was only pedalling enough to neutralize the load and she made over fifty laps!
If this post would be better made in the track section do let me know - I'm kinda new and kinda tandem centric on the forums!
