I've been using buffs since before there were Buffs. In the UK, the Headover, a light fleece tube , has been a std piece of kit for years. I first saw them in 1980s. They are awfully versatile.
My current one is merino wool and a fantastic piece of kit.
In really cold conditions, I wear 2, one around my neck and the other raised up around my ears.
