SKF BB Install Question

I've got an SKF BB that I want to install on a custom frame just back from the painter and I'm wondering how to stop the cups from damaging the paint on the face of the BB shell. The instructions for the BB state that I should use the provided spacer on the drive side which I will do. The spacer needed on the drive side will eliminate any paint damage to the BB face on the drive side but the non-drive side cup will damage the paint for sure since it has a notched lip that butts up against the face of the BB shell.

Would it be ok for me to use another spacer (approx 1/2mm thick) on the non-drive side to eliminate any paint damage to the face or is this a bad idea?

For reference here is a photo of the BB. The red cup is the non-drive side.
