There are some trike manufacturers that use Avids and their own 2 into 1 cable system. Are you trying to avoid brake steer? I'm not so sure that an extra few pieces of metal would be any better at eliminating brake steer than two human hands. Though, you would be able to brake with one hand.

From what I've read on these forums and other places, some people prefer the bar-end shifters. One rider even replaced the grip shifters with bar-end shifters. How easy is it to downshift and brake at the same time with grip shifters? It can be done with bar-end shifters...
