13,000 is a lot of miles for a rim-braked wheel.

Agree. I would be pretty satisfied with getting 13k out of a rear rim. Regular inspection may have warned you that failure was imminent. I probably would have ridden it until it failed anyway. Good post and photo. Thanks for sharing.
