Speed kills applies to cars and bikes. I suspect. On flats I can average 18-20 for an hour or so . When I feel like it. But overall,not important to me. Enjoy the ride too much to hurry it up. Completing distances is important to me.
Safety first. I know speed helps build endurance. But, safety first. Crashing at 30 mph. No thanks. Crashing at 18 is bad enough.
