C&V Internal FreakEconomics -- a Rant

Lately, I have had several private email conversations with forum members about the totally bizzare world of internal C&V economics -- that is, the selling and buying of parts and bikes between forum members. The conclusion is that the majority of C&V members when involved in transactions with other forum members (Trolls) want to buy at garage sale prices and sell at eBay + 30% prices. Is it any wonder I prefer to deal on eBay?

People, the reality is that this is really a very cheap hobby (whether or not your spouse controls the checkbook) Yet C&V members seem to live in fear of losing a few dollars in a transaction.

I've even experienced the situation with forum Brethren when they would express interest in a component I had, i.e., a quill stem. When I would quote them a very modest price, i.e., $10 plus shipping, the response I would get would be "gosh, I thought you might send it to me for free." No kidding. **** Them.

I've even had the situation where a poster would explain that he didn't have the money to buy my frame but how about a used pair of bibs? First, I don't do used bibs. Maybe a pair of Sidis in great shape, but that's it. And if you don't have the cash to buy the frame, why are you bothering with this site. Go out there and make some money and take care of your family, for Christ's sake, GD.

Don't get me wrong. I give away alot of stuff. My sons and there friends have esentially built free bikes in my garage and it couldn't make me happier. That's all good. And, I'm happy to give components to sharing members because I respect their ethic. It's the cheap leeches that drive me crazy.

Your thoughts?
