Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

I have seen dramatic variations in tire sizes, but I have generally found Contis to be smaller than others. For example, I have traditionally been restricted to 700Cx25 on my Bianchi, but I currently have Continentals which are labeled 700Cx28. There is no way I could put 700Cx28 Specialized Armadillos on this bike. Bead inside diameter is about the only consistent dimension in tire sizing.
