I came close, as after I paid the guy for the first complete bike I bought off craigslist, he suggested I ride it around the block. I was planning on riding it home anyway, but took a quick loop and thanked him.
I just attempt to do a thorough inspection, and bring a few basic tools like allen keys and chain wear checker.
I usually do a test ride if it's feasible. Whether I ride it or not, I check for front end collision damage, check if wheels are true and if questionable, I'll check if stem and seatpost move.
