-7ºF, light dusting of fresh snow. Got snowed on last night coming home from a beer run, and I was pretty happy to have goggles in the pannier. Saw the snow and thought "alright, this cold snap must be breaking!". -7º this morning. The calendar says it's November, but it sure looks and feels like February right now.
My limit will be when my ears get cold. I figure its not worth the hassle after that. I can't work 10 hours and spend that much time dressing and undressing for a 14 mile ride no matter how much I love to ride. Of course I live in Las Vegas and the coldest average low for winter is 38 or 39*F. ahhahaHAhaa
I guess I ride all year then.
There's a point around 15ºF where it takes longer for my car to warm up than it does for me to throw on a couple of extra layers in the morning. Below 30º it takes me longer to scrape the car windows than it does to lace up my boots. No matter what the temperature is, half of the time I gain by driving is eaten up by looking for a parking spot on campus (which also eats up a fair amount of $$) and by getting stuck in automotive traffic when trying to leave. All of this time is time I'd rather spend riding my bike.
