Thank you again for all the information. I'm about to go 30 miles to try on a bunch of helmets and shoes. I'm hoping this helps my decision.

Everyone is on a budget, I saved up and sold a few things to be able to spend a bit more than entry level. The way I see it you wear your helmet and shoes more than anything else on a bike.
