26 or 29er for some slalom-like racing

Some help here - modifying my old stand-by HardRock 26 with Judy TT shox rigid/ 27 gear to possibly ss with 18 bmx ring and pin platform pedals. OR take my new 29er clipless, ss, full rigid, aluminum and light, but obviously bigger. which one should I make into my haul ass downhill, berms, hops, and xc downhills? I'd like to race dual slaloms next spring beginner level for fun. Have a hard time lifting hops on my platforms - used to clipless, but only one pair of clipless and I own pin platforms. advise? can't afford shox for 29er..guessing my 26 shox won't fit. Hardrock is cromoly, heavier, but no cracks in 17 years - a true beast, but new 29er is lighter but bigger. thanks
