I have never been a bicycle messenger as such, but early in my working days, I worked for Hughes Aircraft and my title was Utility Worker B, which meant that I was to carry packages and objects from point A to point B and use any tools needed to accomplish my job. Often this meant taking stuff between buildings or between divisions of the company. When I had to go from the Airport Site to the El Segundo site, I rode my bike. I'd put the components in my pack, hop on my bike and pedal on. It was a 20 minute ride each direction, but the bicycle was the fastest way because if I were to drive then I'd have to confront two huge parking lots and the walk and drive time exceeded the pedaling door to door time.
