The thing about the zip tie method is that it's NOT a replacement for studs. It's a completely different concept.

Zip ties on a slick tire are more like chains on a car tire.

Chains are for snow. Studs are for ice.

In winter, you really need knobs to charge through the snow and studs for when there is ice.

Plus, god help you if you ever flat out on the road. I hope you have a set of clippers and a bag of zip ties with you.
