The mistake is often made, but Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is NOT bourbon. It is, however, owned by a Kentucky company. Four Roses is ok. That label is now owned by a Japanese company. That said, if a bottle says "bourbon" on it in the US, then you can be assured it is of, at least, a minimum quality because of the the requirements to label it as a "bourbon". A $10 bottle of bourbon is better than a $10 of any other spirit for that reason. Whether or not you like it, well, that's subjective.
The three bourbons pictured above are actually all the same bourbon (recipe). The difference is the length of aging and proof at which it is bottled. Those particular bourbons are only briefly available this time of year and I managed to snag a bottle of each of the 10 year vintages. They produce small amounts of 10, 12, 15, 20 and 23 year old bourbons.
As you'd suspect Kentucky (Louisville in particular) is the place to buy bourbon. I enjoyed my visit to Amsterdam immensly. I'm willing to facilitate and ship a bottle or two for you if you'd like; just give me a holler.
Sorry for the derailment; I like bourbon.
The crappy pic below is of my small collection of Prohibition era bourbon prescriptions. They were printed by the US Treasury on the same paper used to print currency, I believe. These three date to 1924, 1926 and 1930, if I recall correctly. Writing a prescription for an old lady to take 1/2 ounce of wiskey every two hours or "as needed" is just comical to me. I smile most times I walk by that frame.
