Personally I like the idea from a functional standpoint. I agree about the aesthetics but sometimes it isn't about aesthetics. These would be good on MN winter bikes when you'd like to shift from the hoods, don't want to get a brifter all gunky, and NOT take your hands off the bars to shift on slippery roads.
