I think you meant disk where you typed rim, but what a neat idea. Just about any fine chain should do the job. I haven't ever used studs, but might try this sometime.
Yep, meant disk. Thanks! I did this on my old 3-speed coaster braked winter beater, and it worked great. Just used some thin chain from home depot.
