Similar - I got a nasty note attached to my bike the other day by my company's security people that said "NO authorization to park". I took it to task with the guy at the security desk. He said they probably just don't want me locking to the poles that hold up the signs for the disabled parking spots - because they are on camera... huh?
Well, that didn't make much sense to me. I pointed out that the bike wasn't blocking any parking spaces or access-ways whatsoever, and wasn't against any laws. He asked me what was wrong with using the bike rack? I told him to come outside and look at the ten bikes clogging up the tiny rack; how it is shaped in such a way that the bikes that
are there could only lock their front wheels, and I explained why those bikes were basically ripe for easy theft. Then I said my only other option would be to bring my bike into the building with me to my desk... Long story short they no longer give me trouble about locking to the poles now.
