The pros don't need it lighter - they are already adding ballast to their bikes. And, if it breaks, it costs a pro a lot more than it costs you and me. There are far too many mechanical failures at major pro stage races. (Need I list the big ones SRAM has seen in recent years?)
And for non-pros, the same interests still apply.
