If you're too scared to ride a bike around a neighborhood without a gun, you have no business on a bike. Interesting how it's always the pseudo tough guys that need the guns to protect themselves.
Reminds me of a book on the Civil War I was reading awhile ago. The fighting units were often whole towns of men and boys that knew each other quite well. The tougher the men acted in non-combat situations, the more cowardly they were likely to be in actual combat situations. The ones that did best were often the scholarly educated types, quiet men that knew how to handle their emotions.
